CESANESE

SYRAH – RED GRAPE FOR RED WINE  Cesanese grape is a native red variety from the Lazio region of central Italy, with origins tracing back to Roman times. It is regarded as Lazio’s most important red grape and is particularly well-known in the Cesanese del Piglio DOCG appellation. Cesanese thrives in the region’s volcanic and limestone-rich soils, producing medium to full-bodied wines with distinct aromas of dark berries, cherries, wild herbs, and hints of spice and violets.

Cesanese wines are known for their balance of fruitiness and savory complexity, often with a velvety texture and good acidity. They range from youthful, vibrant styles to more structured, oak-aged versions that improve with age. While Cesanese remains somewhat under the radar compared to Italy's more famous grapes, it is gaining recognition for its unique qualities and strong connection to Lazio’s winemaking heritage. These wines pair beautifully with roast meats, game, and aged cheeses, making them a hidden gem for wine enthusiasts.
