BARBERA
Barbera is the Piedmontese grape par excellence, the most widespread, whose wine represents at least half of the entire production of the region. Barbera wines are relatively rich, bold and flavorful. They are generally esteemed for their deep color, low tannins and high levels of acidity. When young they offer fresh flavors of cherries, blueberries and raspberries. The two most famous expressions of Barbera are Barbera d’Asti (DOCG) and Barbera d’Alba (DOC). The differences between the two wines are really minimal and the quality is always at the top in both cases.
Risotto and pasta with truffles are the best combinations of Barbera in the first course, while for second courses it goes perfectly with roasts and red meats, side dishes such as typical Piedmontese cheeses such as gorgonzola, toma and raschera.
